Reading has always been considered as the most enlightening experience for heart and mind. Those who are avid readers can relate with this feeling really well. Reading undoubtedly is a pleasurable activity but only to those who know how to truly take out the real essence of something they read. However, those who have to struggle with reading and at times don’t even comprehend what they read; the whole experience becomes somewhat a boring task .

But the very good thing is that like writing skills, the reading skills are also not difficult to improve. All we need to do is to tag along the following significant points that may help to get better with the art of reading.

TIPS FOR BECOMING A BETTER READER

1. REGULARITY IN READING MATTERS:

“Frequent “is the word that may help you with improving your reading skills. Adopting regularity with habit of reading is much helpful. The more you read, the more you will become at ease with the task. For better reading, there is a strong need for being disciplined. You have to select a particular time so that you can ensure that you read. For instance, most people read right before going to bed. This, I believe is a perfect time for reading, when there are bright chances of less disturbance and distractions as compared to the day.

2. READ WELL:

For becoming a better reader, you have to ensure one thing of reading well. Whatever reading material you select, make sure you read it thoroughly without skipping or scanning the pages. Give reading some time and try to go through every bit of what is written. The long articles or big books really tempt you to skim through them but for a better reading experience and improving your ability to read, you need to allocate a good amount of time to reading.

3. NEW WORDS AND MEANINGS:

While reading whenever you come across new words which you do not understand, look up for their meanings. This will not only help you in improving your vocabulary but you will also comprehend well the true meaning of whatever you select to read. Always remember, that true essence of an enjoyable and a better reading experience lies under exact understanding of whatever you chose to read.

4. SET OBJECTIVE OF READING:

It is always better to set few goals for reading. You may decide on your own that you will read a certain number of books per year or a month. You can even allocate an hour and a half daily for reading. This will help you in adopting a regular habit of reading but will also make you a better reader as you gain fluency of language while you read.

5. VISIT LIBRARIES:

In order to become a better reader, visiting library is also a very helpful practice. Libraries provide you an opportunity to read as you please. You have a big choice of books on varied topics that helps you select what you really, really want to read. When you will read with a sense of curiosity that how the new book will be like, you will gain greater interest in reading which also may help you improve your reading skills.

6. SELECT MATERIAL ACCORDING TO YOUR INTEREST:

Another vital point in order to perk up your reading skills is to make a selection of reading material that you can understand well. Do not pick up something which may be difficult for you to comprehend. I have seen many people who select to read the most difficult of the books. Ultimately they get bored and lose their interest for it. This is not the right thing to do, rather when you select something, look through few of the pages and if you think you can understand it well, then get it for you to read otherwise try to look for something that you may be able to comprehend with ease.

7. READ WITH CONCENTRATION:

Concentrating on what you are reading is an important aspect for improving your reading skills. Trying to understand the main gist of what you read is that matters the most. Visualizing and imagining about the characters or the situations is something that helps you gain interest. This can be a very useful remedy in becoming a better reader.

In the end it is all about your own efforts and your perseverance that can build up your interest in reading. The tips that have been mentioned above will not only assist you in building up your love for reading but will also facilitate you in becoming a better reader.

Happy reading!!!!
